Sudan
The diving in the Sudan is widely regarded as the best in the Red Sea and rates as one
of the top dive destinations worldwide. Sudan offers a full range of sites from vertical
walls to wrecks resting on sloping plateaus. Home to a diverse collection of marine life
including sharks, mantas and vibrant soft and hard corals the destination offers
something for everyone. Sudan is still a relatively quiet dive destination which gives each
trip a real feel of adventure.

Departing: Royal Emperor departs Port Sudan Each Saturday.
Visa: An Egyptian Visa must be purchased on arrival at the international airport or at the
Egyptian Embassy in your country of origin. On return to Egypt after the liveaboard
another entry visa must be purchased. Sudanese Visas are arranged through an agent prior to departure. Scanned copies of passport must be sent 10 days prior to departure date. Sudanese visas will not be issued to travelers with an Israeli stamp in their passport.
Vaccinations:You should refer to your country’s vaccination centre for the most up to date advice.
Certification
: The diving in Sudan can be challenging and as a result we recommend that divers hold a
minimum certification of PADI Advanced Open Water or equivalent and have 50 logged
dives. Each diver must present a valid diving license and logbook to the dive guides on the first evening.
Safety equipment: Given the intensive dive schedule all guests must dive with a dive computer or plan each
dive on a table. Given the limitations of a dive table a diver with no computer will be
limited to 3 dives only per day.
Each diver must carry a main torch and back up when night diver.
Dive insurance:
Dive insurance is mandatory and must cover the planned diving for the trip booked. It is
the duty of the individual to ensure that dives are within their insured depth limit.
Flying after diving:
A minimum surface interval of 24 hours must be allowed prior to flying or going to
altitude.

Sudan operates Islamic Sharia Law. Alcohol is not permitted and may not be imported. Non-Muslim women are not expected to wear a veil, but visitors should dress modestly
while ashore and respect local customs and sensitivities.

Sudan Discovery (1 week)
Starting with the Blue Belt wreck at Sha’ab Suedi then moving on to Qita el Banna, Angarosh, Abington and Merlo in the northern reaches of the itinerary. On the return there is a stop at Sha’ab Rumi with a dive on the southern plateau and Cousteau’s Conshelf experiment. Finally, Sanganeb Atoll and Wingate reef for the world famous Umbria wreck.
During Manta season (September to early Novemeber) a half day excursion to Mesharifa to snorkel with the feeding mantas can be included. A normal dive day includes 3 day dives and a night or dusk dive.
Sudan Expedition (2 weeks)
The itinerary covers all the sites included in the Discovery trip and conditions permitting a journey further north to dive some of the remote reefs found in the no mans land of northern Sudan. A normal dive day includes 3 day dives and a night or dusk dive.
Sudan Frontier
This itinerary ventures off the beaten track to get a true frontier experience. 60 miles to the south of Port Sudan lay the Suakin (Sawakin) Group of islands. Due to the difficulty in getting there (and back) this group of reefs and islands remains largely undived. Most of the islands and reefs are deep-water pinnacles which mean they are perfect locations for possible sightings of large pelagic animals. Hindi Gidir, Jibna, Shaab Anbar, Leary,Pinnacola, Protector are just some of the reefs that promise some spectacular diving. Sanganeb and the Umbria are dived either at the start or end of the trip.
Given the distances required to travel between areas it may not be possible to do 3 day dives and a night or dusk dive every day.
Sudan Frontier Expedition (2 weeks)

The itinerary combines the best of the north and south. From the Suakin Archipelago to the south of Port Sudan to Angarosh in the north. The itinerary flexible and the aim is to
go where the action is. Given the distances required to travel between areas it may not be possible to do 3 day dives and a night or dusk dive every day.
